So March has been and gone and I've finally bought an item of clothing. Just one. I bought some very basic, very plain, very versatile, very dark grey warm pants for winter. They're made from some viscose and nylon mix that's comfortable to wear, drapes quite well, and I hope will prove to be indestructible.
Many years ago I had some black, extremely fine wool pants that were my ideal pants. The fabric fell perfectly and they were warm (enough) without being bulky. Ever since, whenever I go shopping for winter pants I have the vain hope that I will find something so perfect again. These pants are far from reaching such perfection, but they're good enough.
Still 10 items of clothing I can purchase for the year.

I had a pair of perfect pants like that once too. I still mourn for their demise.
Hope your new pair serve you well :)
Isn't it funny how an item of clothing can stay in one's memory in such a visceral way - like a long lost love or something. For me its a navy wool winter dress coat I bought when I first started working. Over the years I had the lining replaced twice and also replaced all the buttons. I wore it as a young bride to be and left our wedding reception in it. It kept me warm through 2 pregnancies and then all the years our children were growing up. I only retired it after 25 years or so because I had lost enough weight I was drowning in it. I donated it to a local charity and hope someone a bit bigger than me is now loving it the way I did.
If you can find wool pants anymore, I'll be on the first plane. In days gone by I only wore wool pants. Now they are all synthetic. Bah!
I have been remiss and haven't posted about this challenge yet (still! gah!), but I have bought 4 items this year, so far have worn 2 of them)
Your grey (shock!) pants sound most comfortable and versatile. I too have a pair of black 3/4 pants I loved and mourn regularly, and of course will never find their equal.
I found the perfect black wool blend trousers last year. They got a good workout during winter and will be doing similar service this year. I fear the day they will no longer be perfect but hope that they are of sufficient quality to last a while yet.
Hope the grey trews serve you well. :)
I always find pants awful to buy, they are always way too long and then there is finding the "right" fit when you not a 6ft leggy type. So, I',m thinking if you found some that actually fit and look reasonably good your on a winner.. can't wait to see :D
